53 coaches at institutions in San Luis Obispo County earned $102,892 on average in 2022

San Luis Obispo County’s 53 coaches earned an average salary of $102,892 in 2022, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

This is the third highest average salary per county earned by coaches at California post-secondary schools during 2022.

San Luis Obispo County is home to two post-secondary schools that paid coaches during 2022. Among them, California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo stood out with the highest average coaching salary of $136,789.

Male coaches of men's teams received $99,570 on average in San Luis Obispo County, while female coaches in charge of women's teams earned an average of $70,064.

Research from the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management found NCAA coaches are compensated like CEOs, with top coaches earning more than $1.5 million annually.
